It's a multi-coloured paper puzzle in the form of a ball, which can be put together and taken apart.
Help GEA in an online contest!

The German Esperanto Association needs your help. A large contest is taking place, hosted by a German bank, to vote for the most beloved associations in Germany Of course the German Esperanto Association would like to belong to the most beloved associations (if we were among the highest-rated, that would leave a good impression with the public). In addition, the most beloved associations will receive a monetary prize. Show that Esperanto works! Please support GEA!!

We have asked the bank, and they have informed us that every internet user can vote three times for the German Esperanto Association (GEA). They informed us, that it doesn't matter what country you vote from. Please vote for GEA!!!

In the linked document, we describe how to do that. Visit: the document "Klarigoj" (http://www.esperanto-mexico.org/files/Klarigoj%20vochdoni%20por%20GEA%20en%20konkurso%20plej%20shatataj%20asocioj%20de%20Germanio.pdf) and vote for GEA in the contest to find the most beloved associations of Germany.

There are several steps:
Visit the page https://verein.ing-diba.de/kultur/10317/deutscher-esperanto-bund-ev
Click on "Stimme abgeben" (vote). A new page will open.
Enter your e-mail address and a code. Click "Absenden" (Send).
Now you will receive an e-mail message at the address that you entered. In the message, there will be two links. Click on the first one, and you will return to the page with the "Abstimmen" button.
Click on the button! Now the vote counter should raise one. To vote two more times for GEA, repeat the process. it is possible to vote three times (go to the second link) with every e-mail address (every person; internet user).
You can also use addresses of friends or family members. Ask other people if they can help (friends, family members). The more votes, the better. The contest lasts until 15 November, 2011.

Don't forget that you can vote three times per address. Thanks for your help!!!

http://esperantic.org/en/communications/news?n=38

NASK 2011: Same Course, Different Format!

North American Summer Esperanto Institute (NASK) has changed the format of the 42nd session 2011! Instead of the usual three week duration, NASK will offer a short seven day intensive Esperanto course during the week of the 4th of July holiday (July 2-10, 2011). This change was made in order to accommodate students that might not have enough time or money for a longer session. The place—the sunny campus of the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) remains the same. Everyone, from age 16 to 96 (or more!), from all over the world are welcome!

A shorter and less expensive non-credit session allows more flexibility in the activities. Due to the Monday holiday, Americans will need to be off only four days (five days for non-Americans)—you can arrive on Saturday, July 2nd, and depart on July 10th!

Each participant will have their own private room in a four-person suite, with three meals a day, in the International House apartment complex. The restaurant and the classroom are located nearby. You can learn Esperanto in depth and even have time to celebrate U.S. Independence day with fireworks in the nearby town La Jolla!

Birke Dockhorn from Germany, Bertilo Wennergren from Sweden and Lee Miller from the U.S. will teach different levels of formal classes every day, with informal activities in the afternoon and in the evening. Hoss Firooznia, assistant teacher, will organize excursions and non study related events. Grant Goodall, professor at the University of California at San Diego and the Director of its Language Program, will lead the course. This is already the second time for this team which already successfully taught at NASK in 2008.

This year NASK offers a discount rate for everyone who signs up by March 15th (865 USD). The price for full time students and Latin Americans is 665 USD (until March 15th), all included. For more information, go to http://esperanto.org/nask; for prices and payment options, go to http://esperantic.org/en/education/nask. L. L. Zamenhof, born just over 150 years ago, published the first book on Esperanto in 1887 in Warsaw, and attended a World Congress of Esperanto in Washington exactly 100 years ago.

In 1924, Tivadar Soros, father of Paul and George Soros, published his memoir of escape from a Siberian prisoner-of-war camp. He wrote it in Esperanto.

The program will feature the following presentations:

Zamenhof’s Future (by Esther Schor, award winning author, poet and professor at Princeton University);
Esperanto, Washington, and the World in 1910 (by Ralph Dumain, independent scholar and Esperantist for over 40 years);
Filming Esperanto (by Sam Green, Academy Award nominee and the director of Utopia in Four Movements—a documentary that premiered at
Sundance Film Festival in 2010 and featured Esperanto);
Soros in Siberia (by Humphrey Tonkin, professor and president emeritus of the University of Hartford, former president of the Universal
Esperanto Association and the president of the Esperantic Studies Foundation).

It uses prizes as incentives to motivate wikipedians to write and improve articles on selected important topics, and to appreciate the good work of the best contributors. The project also aims to attract new authors to the free encyclopedia. The contest is taking place over the whole month of April 2010, and valuable prizes will be awarded to the best authors. Any registered wikipedian can participate in the contest - just revise and improve one or more articles from the proposed list of 1000 topics, and add your name to the list of competitors. Individuals can also propose that a topic be added to the list, to encourage writing about a specific topic. The contest rules, a list of articles needing work, and proposed prizes can be found at www.vikipedio.net.

The organisation behind lernu!, E@I, is now working on a new project – Lingvohelpilo (Language Helper), a grammar checker for Esperanto.

The main goals of Lingvohelpilo are to:
-         grammatically analyse and check texts in Esperanto;
-         mark and comment on errors detected;
- offer pedagogical clarification and advice.

The first two goals are the same as for most spell and grammar checkers, but the third goal makes Lingvohelpilo a tool not only for language checking, but for language learning as well!

By answering this questionnaire, you have a unique chance to influence this project right from the beginning. Thanks in advance for your help!

President-Elect Obama says he wants to hear ideas from all citizens, so we're taking him up on his offer.

What do we have to do?

After the success in the first voting, within the subject education, now we need to vote again to reach the Top10 position among other ideas presented at Change.org/ideas

Just imagine what would happen if this idea will find support and implementation with the Change.org's partner organisations and within the incoming Administration of Barack Obama! Please vote today!

Idea for Obama: Introduce Esperanto as a foreign language subject in schools

President-Elect Obama says he wants to hear ideas for his Administration. The "Top 10 Ideas for America" will be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day. Please vote for this suggestion to introduce teaching of Esperanto in schools across the US!

According to numerous studies and tests in schools throughout the world, children who were taught Esperanto before another foreign language succeeded in learning the second language much faster and better than without taking a prior course of Esperanto.

Spread this link among your friends and acquaintances via email, blogs, forums, and social networks (Facebook, MySpace and similar). A greater exposure of Esperanto will benefit learning websites like lernu!, learning projects like "Springboard to Languages", and the cause for the international language in general.

Thank you for your support!
