Rule 1 of the Fundamenta Gramatiko

There is no indefinite, and only one definite, article, la, for all genders, numbers and cases.

Note. The usage of the article is the same as that in German, French, and other languages. Those who find usage of the article difficult may choose not to use it at all.

Some examples:

  • mond/o (= world, a world) - la mond/o (= the world)
  • patr/in/o (= mother, a mother) - la patr/in/o (= the mother)
  • muzik/o (= music, some music) - la muzik/o (= the music)
