Here are some additional clarifications regarding the Fundamento de Esperanto:
- The first congress of Esperanto, in 1905, instituted the Fundamenton de Esperanto as basic law for Esperanto. Since then, a special group of accomplished Esperantists have had the task of conserving and protecting the fundamental principles of the Esperanto language and controlling its evolution. This group is called the Akademio de Esperanto (AdE).
- AdE was founded in 1905, following a proposal by Zamenhof, but at that time it went by the name "Lingva Komitato". Today, around 45 people from all continents are members of the Akademio.
- AdE has the right to make additions to the Fundamento, but such additions do not become part of the original inalterable Fundamento - they only build upon its inalterable base. Only the Universala Vortaro is added to in practice; this process is commonly called "officialisation of words". The Akademio has made such additions on 9 occasions, adding almost 2000 words (roots) to the original approx. 3000 words (roots) in the Fundamento.
