As many of you may be aware, the Google website will sometimes post a commemorative logo to mark a holiday or a day of note.

You can see examples of past commemorative logos here
(I recommend browsing them, you'll see lots of them that weren't shown in your country, and some of them are pretty cool)

How do you get a commemorative logo for an event, you ask? You send Google an e-mail, and if Google feels there's enough support for something, they may choose to create a logo to mark the event.

Some people have started a campaign to ask Google to mark the 150th birthday of Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto, on December 15th of this year. If you would like to support this campaign, please send an e-mail to proposals@google.com to suggest it.

All requests should be sent in English. Please make up an e-mail in your own words; it shouldn't sound like some massive spam campaign with people sending all sorts of form letters. Just write to Google and tell them how you feel, and maybe, come December 15th, we'll have a Google logo commemorating Esperanto!

I encourage anyone who's interested also to post a message of this nature in the lernu! forums for other languages. The only thing is that requests have to be sent to Google in English.

en A Google logo celebrating Zemenhof's 150th birthday would be quite nice indeed.

But I would even prefer to have have gmail available in Esperanto. I remember reading that gmail had been translated in Esperanto but the translation is unfortunately not available.

Gmail's translation may be released some time next year as the new Google Chrome OS is based off of linux. Coz Chrome OS will be open source, and it uses google apps extensively, it'd make sense to open up the EO translation so that people don't end up translating the OS and finding the web apps that go with it are in incompatible languages.
